Hands-on Marshmallows Sight Words Worksheet Activity

What is your favorite summer treat? Mine is definitely roasted marshmallows and s’mores. They are ewwy gooey, sweet and crunchy all at the same time. What could be better? This special, seasonal treat is the inspiration behind these Roasting Marshmallows Sight Word Mats! Kids will enjoy the fun, summer theme sight words activity that will help them learn more about preschool sight words. Simply print the sight word worksheets and you are ready to play and learn with this camping activity for kids.

Sight words activity

Sight words are important for Kindergarteners, even some preschoolers, to start learning. These are the first words that children learn to read and write that will help them with their future in literacy. This hands-on sight word activity is a great way to help preschoolers and kindergartners practice these sight words for preschoolers while having fun with a summer, camping theme! Simply print the sight word printables and set out with mini marshmallows for this fun camping activity for parents, teachers, and homeshoolers.

Camping Activity

Learning to spell and write CVC words is typically the first type of words that Kindergarteners focus on. It is important to have this base so that they can continue to learn to read in the future. Sight words are also important because they provide clues to the point of the text. When children become familiar with certain words, it may be enough to allow them to figure out what the rest of the sentence says. Even if they are guessing, it is still a great tool. 

The first step after printing the mat is to laminate it. This way you can use dry erase markers to write the words, or your children can. We also used mini marshmallows to form the words as well. 

Marshmallow activities

We used some of the most basic CVC sight words to create these mats. One word is included on each page. We also included a blank page, without a word on it, so that you can use this activity for words that we did not include in the set. 

Each page has a girl ranger and a boy ranger that are both roasting marshmallows over the fire. This is a perfect sight word activity to take on a camping trip, even if the camping is in your living room or own backyard.
