All you need to try this simple science experiment are a few materials you probably have on hand:

Supplies:

  • 2 test tubes or containers
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • blue food coloring
  • yellow food coloring

Start by mixing about 10 drops blue food coloring with baking soda until you have a light, baby blue powder.

Carefully spoon the baking soda mixtuer into the bottom of a test tube or two.

Make sure to set your container in a baking pan, dish, or outside as the color mixing project will bubble over!

In a squirt bottle mix 15 drops yellow fod coloring with 1/2 cup of binegar and mix well.  Now comes the fun part. Ask children what color they think blue and yellow will make. Get their hypothesis. Once they’ve all made their predictions it is time for the simple chemisty experiment to reveal the results.
