Looking for fun scavenger hunt ideas? We like to use these cards as a shape activity and make it into a shape scavenger hunt printable. Kids pick a card and walk around the house, neighborhood, room, etc. looking for items of the same shape. You can use a dry erase marker to make tally marks to see how many things you can find with that shape.
Other shape scavenger hunt ideas include:
- Hide the flashcards around your home or yard and have the kids race to find them. When they find one, they can shout out the shape’s name!
- Make it educational by giving clues that describe the shape. For example, โI have three sidesโ for a triangle. The kids must guess the shape before they can find it.
- Create a matching game by placing the flashcards on the ground. Kids must find the corresponding item in their environment that matches each shape.
- Mix it up with a timed challenge. Set a timer and see how many shapes the kids can find within a minute. This adds excitement and urgency to the hunt!
- Use the flashcards for a color recognition twist. As kids find each shape, they should yell out the color of the object nearby that matches each shape.
- Turn it into a team competition. Divide the kids into small groups and see who can find the most shapes within a designated time.
- Incorporate storytelling! As they find each shape, encourage the kids to think of a short story or scenario that includes that shape.
- Involve art! After collecting the flashcards, have the kids draw or craft their found shapes using materials around them, like leaves, sticks, or stones.
