Start by grabbing your supplies:

  • scissors
  • glue
  • markers, crayons, or colored pencils
  • construction paper (red, orange, yellow, brown)
  • turkey template (optional, bottom of post)
How to make a turkey craft

Start out by holding your colored construction paper horizontally. Now you will want to cut your strips length so that the shortest strip goes first and they get longer as you make the teardrop feathers.

Now take one strip and glue the end and press opposite end to seal. Do not crease the strip. You want a couple inches of glued overlap.

Add next strip of colored construction paper that is a little longer than the previous, in turkey feather colors, around the first one. Once again glue the ends, but this time glue to the first overlap.

Continue adidng slightly longer strips of construction paper until you have 6-10 strips of attached teardrops with each outermost layer slightly longer than the previous. You will probably repeat colors in random order.

Make additional tear drop turkey feathers out of construction paper until you have bout 5-7 feathers.

Turkey Craft for Preschoolers

At this point you can either grab our free turkey body template to colour and cut out or make your own free hand with construction paper.

To make your own turkey out of construction paper yow will want to cut out a figure eight with two connected, overlapping circles out of brown or orange construction paper. The top circle should be half as big as the bottom one.

Complete your turkey by attaching google eyes. Then cut out an orange beak and feet shape. Finally cut out a red wattle. Glue the features on your brown figure eight turkey body. Again, you can use the template if you prefer.

Ust tape or glue to attach the feathers to the back of the body.
